A new use for Minnehaha 3000

The City of Minneapolis plans to repurpose the former 3rd precinct police building into a mixed-use public facility, co-locating ground floor community use space with the City’s Department of Elections and Voter Services.

This building is at the corner of Lake Street and Minnehaha Avenue, fully accessible via light rail and bus, and includes accessible parking in the back lot. The City believes it serves as an ideal area for Election and Voter Services to support voter engagement and early voting activities. These services will help increase voter turnout for the community.

Future community use

A significant portion of the ground-floor is dedicated for community use. The City plan to work with the community to explore what that space can be. The City will share next steps at a community information session this spring.

Clean-up begins this spring/summer

The City will begin to restore the building.

The work includes:

  1. Repairing the outside of the building, including cleaning up graffiti.

  2. Removing the temporary barriers and razor wire fencing.

  3. Installing new doors and windows.

  4. Performing maintenance checks.
