City of Minneapolis awards $50,000 for Lake Street marketing, placemaking, and business support

You’ll see some cool initiatives on Lake Street this year, thanks in part to the City of Minneapolis.

We are happy to share that the city recently awarded $50,000 to the Lake Street Council. This funding will support several programs, including:

  • Lake Street Reimagined, which is focused on beautifying the corridor with community art and murals. Lake Street is an excellent arts destination. We’re excited to highlight it!

  • Direct support to businesses in preparation for the busy construction season ahead, including promotions to attract visitors and resources to help businesses inform customers.

  • The expansion of our You Belong Here campaign to tell the story of Lake Street and all the unique events, activities, art, and small businesses people can explore.

The funding comes from the Minneapolis Great Streets Business District Support Grants, which go to nonprofit organizations across the city. The goal of these grants is to strengthen neighborhood business districts and encourage neighborhood vitality and investment.

We’d been fortunate to receive this annual grant before – it’s what helped us originally create the You Belong Here campaign, our popular Lake Street Art Drop event series, and other fun initiatives over the years.

We look forward to offering lots of meaningful programs for Lake Street businesses, nonprofits, neighbors, and visitors this year. Stay tuned!
