The Lake Street Council's mission is to build a cohesive strategy to ensure the ongoing vitality of the Lake Street Corridor business community.

The Latest on Lake:

The Mercado Central and Latino Economic Development Center, along with a host of other businesses and community partners, are brining Day of the Dead to Lake Street. In a dozen businesses mostly in the Bloom-Cedar-Lake area, storefronts windows and buildings will be decorated with photographs, paintings, prints, and other public art from local Latino artists. On November 1st LEDC will have an ofrenda competition at Plaza Verde. The main event takes place the next day starting at 5:00 PM at Mercado Central, with a mask making workshop followed by a procession to El Colegio at 42nd & Bloomington, where the celebration will last throughout the night. Don't forget that today and Saturday are the last days this year to get your produce and other goodies at the Midtown Farmers' Market. If you're in need of inspiration, The Bridge newspaper has some recipes courtesy of Mike Phillips, head chef at The Craftsman Restaurant.
Congratulations to Judy Krasselt of Chicago Lake Florist, for winning an Abby Award from Abbott Northwestern Hospital at the 2007 event held last night. Abbott says about Judy: "She treats people like family and is always willing to donate a gift certificate, basked of plants or a bouquet of flowers for a neighborhood activity or fundraising event. Her generosity to the community sets a positive standard in the area."
The Martin Olav Sabo Bridge, which will take Midtown Greenway users over Hiawatha Avenue, is nearing completion. On November 8th, it will light up and be ready for use for the first time. A ribbon cutting event will be held that day, starting at 4:00 PM, hosted by Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis. When it's all over, come join us for our annual wine tasting and silent auction, just a few blocks away!
This week is Police Station Visitors Week across the world. Contact your local precinct to learn more and ask about getting a tour of your own.
