Also taking place this week
is Day of the Dead, starting Wednesday November 1st. Mercado Central at 1515
East Lake Street will begin the festivities at 3:30 PM with a mask-making
workshop, followed by a procession to El Colegio (4137 Bloomington Avenue) at
5:30. Once there, there will be a ceremony to honor the spirits of deceased
friends and relatives, followed by traditional Day of the Dead Mexican food.
Mariachi music and presentations from students about the ofrendas (offerings)
that they created will take place later in the evening. On November 2nd at
Funeraria la Paz (2535 Park Avenue), there will be an exhibition of
photography from Mexico, and also traditional food and a Mass.
