Lake Street News Brief

November 18, 2009
Lake
Street Council's mission is to build
a cohesive strategy to ensure the ongoing vitality
of the Lake Street Corridor business community.
The Latest on Lake:
- A big thank you to everyone who attended our annual
fundraiser last week! Your support helps us to keep going in
supporting the entire Lake Street business community. And thanks
especially to major contributors East Lake Liquor, El Nuevo Rodeo, Ryan
Companies, US Bank, Franklin Bank, and Midtown Global Market.
- Local foodie magazine Heavy Table is holding their
year-end Silver Whisk Awards, and Lake Street is well-represented in
the nominations. Mike Phillips of The Craftsman is up for Best Chef 2009,
with Heavy Table calling a "culinary pioneer" for his work with local
food. And La Loma Tamales is nominated for Best
Purveyor 2009, for the hard work Noelia Vasquez and Enrique Salazar
have put in to get their tamales available in 260 stores, including
Lunds, Kowalski's, and Cub Foods.
- Public Policy FYI: Minneapolis' pension
fund obligations as a percentage of city spending continue to increase
(2% in 2002, 6% in 2010), meaning more property tax revenues are being
diverted towards this need and away from city services. Until
corrective legislation is proposed, we should all continue to monitor
this issue. (via the Minneapolis
Chamber)
- Moto-i made it on Travel & Leisure's list of 25
American Hot Spots. "The novelty of hanging out in a sake
brewpub—who ever heard of
that?—was what drew me there, but the food and drink will bring me
back. Richardson’s junmai-nama sake is extraordinary, and his
Asian bar snacks made me wonder why there isn’t a Moto-i
in every city."
- Uptown businesses, remember that the deadline for submitting an
application to participating in the Holiday Window Decorating
Contest is this Friday, the 20th. Details
here.
