December 16, 2009
Lake
Street Council's mission is to build
a cohesive strategy to ensure the ongoing vitality
of the Lake Street Corridor business community.
The Latest on Lake:
- As promised, we've put together a collection of some
of the holiday decorations you'll find on Lake Street right
now, and you can see them on our Flickr page.
Both Uptown and Midtown are holding holiday decorating contests this
year, with prizes going to those judged the winners. Thanks to all who
participate!
- Some bad news at Kaplan Bros. at 14th & Lake, as a
burst pipe caused a
flood in their store, with significant damage. The store could be
closed for at least 6 weeks. Our thanks to Kaplan's neighbors In
the Heart of the Beast Theatre and all others who go over to check
on them and lend support during this unfortunate time.
- Speaking of HOBT, they
received a very
nice write-up this week from the Twin Cities Daily Planet,
about their current show La Natividad. "If you have never seen
it, you really should. It is a beautiful piece
of theater that combines faith, storytelling, community building,
spirituality, and a political message." Currently, there are still
tickets available for the show on Thursday the 17th.
- Also in the Daily Planet, they pay
a visit to the new studio of Ricardo Levins Morales, the
co-founder of longtime Lake Street institution Northland Poster
Collective. "The gallery's walls are graced by everything from images
from his
Coffee Calendar that honored the workers who grow the beans that make
our morning brew to posters that fueled decades of battles for peace
and justice." We wish him luck in his new space.
- And finally, the e-news will be taking an end of year break for
the rest of December, and will return in three weeks. See you in 2010!
