With the end of 2006, restaurant critics in the Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, and City Pages gave their picks for best and most notable restaurant experiences of the year, and Lake Street featured prominently. Congratulations to Town Talk Diner, Tacqueria La Hacienda, jP American Bistro, Cafe Barbette, and the Midtown Global Market (both those individually singled out and everyone who contributed to making it a destination for eating and shopping). View Restaurant & Lounge and Town Talk were also #1 and #2 on Citysearch's top 10 new restaurants. Just one small sample of the great food to be found on Lake!
Last week, Patrick's Cabaret's latest show, Shadow Cabaret, went on the road to Berlin, Germany. They'll be starting performances on the 19th, and are holding a raffle here to allow two people to join them for a week. 500 tickets are being sold at $50 each, and the winner gets to take along a guest for a seven-day trip to Berlin, with Patrick as "tour guide, translator, and unofficial ambassador". On January 25th, the Advertising Federation of Minnesota will be holding a silent auction that features advertising and media placements. Discounts on the auction items can go as low as 60-90% off the regular price. The entry cost is $40 for non-members. See their website for more details and to sign up.
Come visit the newly renovated Panorama Video! It is still located in the Lyn-Lake area at 822 West Lake Street, but is under new ownership. Panorama Video will have an increased number of new releases and will also have available an array of foreign and the not so typical harder to find videos.

The “Invigorate the Common Well” performance series combines science, civics and puppet theatre to celebrate Water and to grapple with issues of water quality, quantity, and ownership. Each episode features live performance, installations, music, video, and hands-on practical “labs”. Individual tickets $20, 10+ group rate $15 each. A quilter and textile-maker from Minneapolis highlights the contributions of African-American quilters to American history, and brings this lost art to a new generation.
