LaHood, Federal Transit Administration head Peter Rogoff
and other top DOT staff visited Lake Street, from Hiawatha to the
Midtown Exchange. Hennepin County Commissioners Gail Dorfman
and Peter McLaughlin were asked to talk about the connections
between Lake Street and the Midtown Greenway. The Secretary had
asked to see the Midtown Greenway as an example of bike and pedestrian
trails that serve commuters, connect with transit options and link to
housing and business districts. DOT staff were particularly interested
business development along Lake Street and the redevelopment of Midtown
Exchange and mentioned that they will highlight the Midtown
Greenway/Lake Street as a
national model.
- Hennepin County is looking for ways to reduce waste, improve
recycling and process organics. To collect this information, they
