Lake Street News Brief

The Lake Street Council's mission is to build a cohesive strategy to ensure the ongoing vitality of the Lake Street Corridor business community.

St. Thomas journalism project highlights Lake Street's Midtown section

As part of an advanced journalism class at the University of St. Thomas, over 20 students have been assigned to report on the Phillips and Powderhorn neighborhoods of Minneapolis. And of course, no stories about these neighborhoods would be complete without including their connector and main business corridor: Lake Street. These stories are being collected and made available on a section of St. Thomas's website called NewsSouth.

Of particular note this week is Kara Eliason's piece on Judy Krasselt, owner of Chicago Lake Florist. Judy recently turned 84 years old and her store continues to add cheer and color to the Chicago-Lake area. Did you know that March 14, 1984 was named Orv & Judy Krasselt day by the governor? Or that Judy adopted her first name because of her resemblance to Judy Garland? Read on for all this and a lot more, and be sure to keep Chicago Lake Florist the next time you need flowers.

From there, check out NewsSouth's business archive to read more pieces on Lake Street, including Michael's Hip Hop Shop, Cristo Rey High School, and the Midtown Global Market. They say they welcome story ideas, so if you have something you'd like to see them cover in the Midtown area, submit it to them!
