Lake
Street Council's mission is to build
a cohesive strategy to ensure the ongoing vitality
of the Lake Street Corridor business community.
The Latest on Lake:
- Our second Customer Service Training Workshop of the
year is coming up soon! This workshop builds on the first and is titled
"When Good Customer Service is Easier Said Than Done", and
is offered in partnership with Goodwill Easter Seals. It will
take place Wednesday, March 31st from 3:00 - 4:30 PM at La Vina, 3010
4th Ave. S. Please come and RSVP to let us know you're coming! Reply to

- Hymie's
Vintage Records will soon be moving. Their last day at their
33rd and Lake
location will be April 17th, which is also national Record Store Day.
Then they'll be moving for a couple weeks, and in May they'll open up
at 39th & Lake, in the same building as Blue Moon Coffee Cafe
and Mill City Music. Mill City Music will be moving up to the
2nd floor to make room.
- A column in the Star Tribune this week takes a look at the Green
Institute and the steps they've taken to improve their financial
position. Check

- In the Heart of the Beast's MayDay Parade is coming up on
May 2nd, and the food vendor application is now available. Download
it here.
- Minneapolis Advantage, a zero interest $5000 forgivable
loan program for those buying a home, has returned to a handful of
neighborhoods including some around Lake Street. Read more about it at

This month's topic is "Re-Greening the Eighth Ward." After last year’s
tornado and the entrance of emerald ash borer in Minneapolis this year,
what are the options and resources for rebuilding our tree canopy and
creating garden spaces to enhance our neighborhoods?
March 26th: Breakfast with Gary Schiff

Minneapolis school board candidates vying for two at-large seats, as
well District Three, and District Five will be part of a candidate
forum at this month’s Breakfast with Gary. This year will be the first
that voters will have the chance to elect three school board members by
district as well as two at-large board members. The new districts
correspond to those already existing for Park and Recreation Board.

March 24nd: A Freedom Seder, at Glaciers Cafe

Our Freedom Seder brings people together from diverse backgrounds to
share the story of Passover and its message of freedom. Full Seder meal

March 24th: Intaglio Class,
at Highpoint Center
for Printmaking
6:00 - 9:00 PM, 912 W. Lake St.
This course introduces participants to a variety of basic intaglio
techniques including traditional and contemporary methods. A variety of
etching tools, papers, and printing processes will also be
demonstrated. Learn to create images comprised of line, texture, and
tone printed from copper plates using such things as hard and soft
ground, aquatint, sugar-lift and more! Oil based inks will be used
throughout the course. All experience levels are welcome. Inks, tools,
one copper plate and 2 sheets of 22" x 30" printmaking paper will be
provided.

An original piece written and performed by the Minnetonka High School
Drama Club as part of Pangea World Theater's Diverse Stages program.

Adapted from Edgar G. Ulmer’s classic 1945 film noir piece, DETOUR
tells the story of a hapless New York nightclub pianist who hitchhikes
to Hollywood to join his girl Sue. Along the way, he runs into a sleazy
gambler and a blackmailing dame who bring him nothing but grief. In the
end, no matter what he does, his every move plunges him deeper into
trouble...
Through March 27nd: Studio 413 presents ‘Interiors &
Exteriors’, at Vine Arts Center

Art moves us in and out. 25 artists exploring the dialogue between the
inner and outer life of the artist and the viewer. A single work of
art expresses the artist’s interior dialogue with the exterior
materials chosen. The resulting work may depict an exterior landscape,
an interior still life, or an abstract that provokes the viewer into a
previously unknown interior place or to see exteriors in an entirely
new way.

innesota author Erin Hart blends her Midwestern roots with her love of
Ireland in her latest novel, False Mermaid. Erin Hart's Haunted Ground
was one of the most praised mystery debuts in recent years, and its
follow-up, Lake of Sorrows, also received outstanding acclaim. Now Hart
combines her page-turning storytelling skills and deep knowledge of
Ireland and Irish myth with a Minnesota setting close to her heart.
April 2nd: Family Easter Celebration, at Midtown Global

Bring your camera and have your photo taken with the Easter Bunny.
There will be free activities including egg decorating, Easter crafts,
cookie decorating and live family entertainment from Ensemble Music’s
Common Chord. Participating stores and restaurants in the Market will
offer Easter specials. Kids are invited to bring their Easter basket to
collect candy from many Midtown Global Market vendors.

MayDay Immersion, at In

A hands-on, intensive course in learning how to make a parade at HOBT and in the
streets. Join the MayDay Staff Artists to envision, build and rehearse the
MayDay Parade. We will learn how to build and perform large puppets and masks,
stilt (for those who are interested), play parade music, and engage playfully
with a parade audience. This is a unique chance to be a young apprentice to
professional artists who are some of the top parade artists in the country.

Swedish Institute
2600 Park Ave. (6:00 PM opening reception on the 29th)
Featuring the work of seventeen of the most notable designers in Sweden
today -- and they're all women. The exhibit includes more than 60
examples of design in the form of furniture, textiles, and functional
and decorative works in glass, ceramics, wood, steel, and other
materials.
