In the Heart of the Beast prepares for MayDay:

Through May 3rd, In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre transforms its theater space at 1500 East Lake Street into a giant community art studio where parade artists and hundreds of people create the amazing MayDay puppets and floats.  Workshops will be held on Saturdays from 9:00 - 11:00 AM and 1:00 - 3:00 PM, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 - 9:00 PM.  The workshops are free and open to everyone (no reservations necessary).  Wear clothing enhanced by paint.  Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Sunday, May 6th is HOBT's 33rd Annual MayDay Parade and Festival. The parade begins at 1:00 PM at Bloomington Ave. and 26th St., goes south on Bloomington to 34th Street, then turns into Powderhorn Park (15th Ave & 34th St.) for the Tree of Life Ceremony, an outdoor pageant.

As thousands of people join in to welcome the return of spring to Minnesota, volunteers will also be needed during the Parade and Festival at Powderhorn Park to serve as parade, ceremony, performance and vendor ushers, set-up and clean-up crew members, stage managers, information booth and traffic directors.
