April 29th: Opening Reception for Independence & Revolution 1810/1910/2010, at Intermedia Arts

This year marks two important milestones in the history of Mexico.  Two hundred years after the Mexican War of Independence and 100 years after the Mexican Revolution, the consulate is launching a new website and a series of cultural events, planned by the consulate's bicentennial committee, to celebrate these historic battles and connect all Minnesotans - Latino or not - with traditional and modern Mexico. Independence & Revolution 1810/1910/2010 is a visual art exhibition by Mexican Artists co-presented by Intermedia Arts.

The Blue Phoenix Circus Troupe was founded by seasoned circus students who wanted to bring their skills to the professional world – both as performers and educators.

Frank Theatre presents the premiere of an original company-developed adaptation of Franz Kafka’s classic 1912 novella, Metamorphosis, one of the most analyzed stories in modern literature that continues to elicit vast interest and interpretation on the stage, in film and music.

High school senior Nathaniel Irvin gathers a group of young Twin Cities performers for an evening of songs about independence, fear, and possibility as a new chapter of life begins.

May 4th: "Coop: A Family, a Farm, and the Pursuit of One Good Egg" author reading, at Magers & Quinn

Faced with thirty-seven acres of fallen fences and overgrown fields surrounding his rickety Wisconsin farmhouse, and informed by his pregnant wife that she intends to deliver their baby at home, Michael Perry plumbs his unorthodox childhood--his city-bred parents took in sixty-some foster children while running a ramshackle dairy farm--for clues to how to proceed as a farmer, a husband, and a father. Coop is filled with humor, but Perry also writes from the quieter corners of his heart, chronicling experiences as joyful as the birth of his child and as devastating as the death of a dear friend.

: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, at Jungle Theater

Bain Boehlke directs a stellar cast in an electrifying Jungle production. When George, a disillusioned academic, and Martha, his caustic wife, invite a handsome young professor and his mousy wife home for a nightcap, an innocent night of fun and games quickly turns dark and dangerous. Long-buried resentments are unleashed as George and Martha turn their razor-sharp wits against each other, using their guests as pawns in their verbal sparring. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Play, and considered by many to be Albee’s masterpiece.

: 17 Swedish Designers, at American Swedish Institute

Featuring the work of seventeen of the most notable designers in Sweden today -- and they're all women. The exhibit includes more than 60 examples of design in the form of furniture, textiles, and functional and decorative works in glass, ceramics, wood, steel, and other materials.
