Lake Street Council's
mission is to build
a cohesive strategy to ensure the ongoing vitality
of the Lake Street Corridor business community.
The Latest on
Lake:
- In response to concerns from many
Lake Street business owners about the recent increase in
inspections by the City and the citations issues, Lake Street Council
has organized a meeting with Minneapolis Regulatory Services Director
Rocco Forte. This meeting sill be for him to explain how inspections
fit into Minneapolis's goals and business plan, and for business owners to
explain how inspections have impacted them. It will be held at the Midtown
Sheraton on June 6th, from 12:00 - 2:00 PM. Please RSVP by June
4th if you would like to attend and make yourself heard at this

- Don't forget Lake Street
Sidewalks Day, coming soon on May 31st from 12:00 - 3:00 PM. With
over 20 participating locations between Chicago and
Bloomington, it is sure to be a fun-filled afternoon that gets people walking
up and down Lake Street! Be sure to drop by yourself that day and sample all
the entertainment and business discounts for yourself, and enter into our
gift basket drawings at the Global Market and Mercado
Central.
- In the Heart of the
Beast Theatre's Episode III
of Invigorate the Common Well is fast approaching in July, and
they're looking for sponsors as part of an all-day carnival
they will be putting on as a part of the show. Sponsors are needed for three
different tents they'll be putting up: "Water Quality",
"Water Quantity/Consumption", and "Water
Ownership". For details on sponsorship, contact Bonita at

- This week, City Pages reviews Indio, the new Uptown Mexican restaurant. They call it "the city's second
foray into elegant Mexican cuisine" and "home-style cooking with a gourmet
touch."

This free event is designed especially for Uptown
businesses and organizations. The focus will be on graffiti and how to minimize
it on and around your business.
June 7th: Scandinavian
Civil War Veterans Lecture & Walking Tour, at Ingebretsen's
and Pioneers and
Soldiers Memorial Cemetery
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, beginning at
1601 East Lake Street
Cemetery historian Susan Hunter-Weir highlights the
lives and contributions of the Scandinavian Civil War veterans who are buried in
there. The class will start with a one-hour talk in the Needlework classroom,
followed by a one-hour walking tour of the
cemetery.
