May 20th: Two Chairs Telling, at Open Eye Figure Theatre
7:30 PM, 506 East 24th Street
"Jim Stowell is an iconic Twin Cities' storyteller and performer, larger than life, with stories that careen from the personal to the political and back again. Jasmin Cardenas is a bi-lingual Latina storyteller who shares with Jim a childhood growing up between languages and cultures with a rapper's sensibility for reporting what was and what should have been of race, class and sex."

May 21st: Lake Street Construction Meeting
2:00 PM, 105 West Lake Street (Champions)
County & City project staff discuss the latest construction updates and listen and respond to business concerns.

May 22nd: Division of Indian Work Open House
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, 1001 East Lake Street
With bingo, raffles, tours, prizes, and buffalo burgers and hot dogs.

: The ReRoute: Taking a Stand on Sacred Land

Funded in part by Northern Sun Merchandising. "The dramatic story of a community's opposition to the State of Minnesota's plan to drive a road through its birthplace."

May 27th: Out Rage Us, at Patrick's Cabaret
9:00 PM, 3010 Minnehaha Ave.
"For Out Rage Us! Patrick's Cabaret gathers some of Minnesota's freest spirits, a collaborative show that is political, transgressive, sassy and fun."

Beginning May 30th: The Gin Game, at Jungle Theater
2951 Lyndale Ave. S.
"On the porch of a run down nursing home, cantankerous and somewhat unstable Weller Martin is playing a game of solitaire when he is interrupted by prim Fonsia Dorsey. She joins him for a game of gin rummy and they begin a prickly friendship as they reveal the truths behind the life stories they've created."

May 30th - June 1st: Midtown Global Market's Second Birthday Celebration
5:00 PM Friday - 6:00 PM Sunday, 920 East Lake Street
Free birthday cake and children's activities on Friday night. A Parade of Flags on Saturday at 10:00 AM, followed by entertainment and demonstrations throughout the day. A "Day of Dance" Sunday concludes the weekend.

May 31st: Lake Street Sidewalks Day
12:00 - 3:00 PM, Lake Street from Chicago to Bloomington
Sidewalk chalk art, lots of business discounts, and lots of dancing, theater, and other entertainment up and down the street!

June 3rd: Kensington Runestone Lecture Presentation, at Ingebretsen's
1:00 PM, 1601 East Lake Street
"Did wandering Vikings leave a message to future generations in a field in Alexandria, Minnesota or did a farm family create an elaborate hoax? Scott Wolter used linguistic clues and geological data to form his fascinating conclusion." $5 entry fee.

June 5th: Uptown Graffiti Meeting, presented by Uptown Business Association
8:30 - 10:00 AM, 3036 West Lake Street (Lake Calhoun City Apartments Community Room)
This free event is designed especially for Uptown businesses and organizations. The focus will be on graffiti and how to minimize it on and around your business.

June 7th: Scandinavian Civil War Veterans Lecture & Walking Tour, at Ingebretsen's and Pioneers and Soldiers Memorial Cemetery
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, beginning at 1601 East Lake Street
Cemetery historian Susan Hunter-Weir highlights the lives and contributions of the Scandinavian Civil War veterans who are buried in there. The class will start with a one-hour talk in the Needlework classroom, followed by a one-hour walking tour of the cemetery.

Every Tuesday: Informational Meetings at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School

7:00 PM, 2924 4th Ave. S.
Cristo Rey welcomes 8th and 9th grade students and their parents to learn more about the school as a possibility for 9th and 10th grades. For appointments call 612-545-9704. A college prep education for students from families of low income. Transportation, financial aid and full scholarships available.
