May 26th: Cooking Demostration at Midtown Farmers' Market
10:00 AM, corner of East Lake Street & 22nd Ave. S.
Chef Mike Phillips of the Craftsman Restaurant will present a cooking demonstration featuring springtime foods. He will apply his trademark style of sophisticated simplicity to dishes featuring wild-foraged foods such as ramps (wild leeks) and watercress, as well as early-season produce: asparagus, greens, etc.

May 30thGlobal Trekkers' Walking Club Launch, at Midtown Global Market

Walking club membership is free and open to the public; sign up at Golden Thyme Cafe. First 50 people to sign up get a free Global Trekkers' t-shirt, first 250 get a Lake Street pedometer. Mayor R.T. Rybak will be the honorary First Global Trekker.
 
Starting June 1st: Sacred Beauty: Treasures from Swedish Cathedrals and Churches, at The American Swedish Institute
Opening reception June 1st, 5:00 - 7:00 PM, 2600 Park Avenue
A series of four related exhibits share the experiences of Swedish-American faith traditions. The first is "Sacred Beauty: The Augustana Lutheran Tradition." It includes metalwork, textiles, photographs, documents, furniture and more.

Guest speakers are Kristin Guild, Principal Project Coordinator for CPED, and Antonio Rosell, an urban planner who will discuss opportunities for investment in the 8th Ward identified through his work on a Small Area Plan for 38th Street and Chicago Avenue.
