The Lake Street Council's mission is to build a cohesive strategy to ensure the ongoing vitality of the Lake Street Corridor business community.

The Latest on Lake:

Lake Street Council's latest Lake Line newsletter is in the process of being shipped and mailed today. But, why wait? It's available on the newsletters page of our website right now. It's the first-ever full color issue, so you definitely want to check this one out!
Global Bike Days at the Midtown Greenway and Midtown Global Market are fast approaching. They take place on the weekend of June 30 and July 1, and feature music, spoken word, dance, a Bike Art Gallery, and a whole lot more entertaiment. If you walk, bike, or take a bus to the event, you'll get a Bike Passport good for discounts from various Global Market vendors. And what could make this event even better? You could, by volunteering! Stop by Thursday at 6:00 PM to see what you can do to lend a hand. Meetings take place in the southeast corner of the Global Market (near Manny's Tortas), and will take place every Thursday until the event happens. Or, sign up online.
Further volunteer opportunities: Volunteer at Patrick's Cabaret this weekend to sell beverages or tickets and you can see the Cabaret show for free. E-mail April at april@patrickscabaret.org to find out more. PPNA is looking for people to help out during the July 4th event at Powdernhorn Park. They would sell glow light necklaces from 8:00 - 9:15 PM. You can contact PPNA at 612-722-4817 ext. 22, or elena@ppna.org.
Today is the opening day for Aldi in the Hi-Lake Shopping Center. Aldi is a grocery store with the philosophy of low prices and no frills. If you go, make sure to bring cash.
Afrifest is coming soon to the Twin Cities -- August 18 & 19. They have opportunities for local business and non-profits to get involved, be it as vendors, exhibitors, or sponsors. To find out more, visit their site, call 612-281-6318, or e-mail info@afrifest.org. The end of June is the deadline for some of these opportunities, so don't delay.

"Music, theater, dance, poetry, to bring on summer: variety, in our salads, our gardens, and at the cabaret!"

June 16th: Swedish Midsommar Celebration, at The American Swedish Institute
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, 2600 Park Ave.

Celebrate summer with fiddling, dancing and festivity at the American Swedish Institute’s annual Midsommar Celebration. This annual festival includes music, folk dancing, colorful Swedish folk costumes, arts and crafts, a used book sale, food, games, and family-friendly activities.

June 17th: Lake Street Festival, presented by Latino Communications Network

The Lake Street Festival will honor all the different Latino cultures by celebrating the contributions they have made as entrepreneurs and business owners along Lake Street.

"Brooke Murphy and Justin Leaf are Broadway babies in heat, exploring perversions of your favorite show tunes."

June 28th - July 1st: B-Girl Be: A Celebration of Women in Hip-Hop, at Intermedia Arts
2822 Lyndale Ave. S.
A multimedia festival encompassing the elements of hip-hop. The four-day summit showcases women through live performances, fashion, films, videos, workshops and panels.

Through October: Sacred Beauty: Treasures from Swedish Cathedrals and Churches, at The American Swedish Institute 2600 Park Ave.

A series of four related exhibits share the experiences of Swedish-American faith traditions. The first is "Sacred Beauty: The Augustana Lutheran Tradition." It includes metalwork, textiles, photographs, documents, furniture and more.
