The Latest on Lake:
- Early July marks
the debut of 2010 Midtown Greenway Corridor Map — a complete
biking/running/walking map and resource guide for neighborhoods, parks
and business districts all along the Midtown Greenway Trail. Lake
Street Council and Midtown Greenway Coalition are sponsoring
this free trails map. It includes running/biking mileage points, trail
access and business districts that surround the trail.
Maps will be available at the sponsors, running/biking gear stores,
specialty shops, select restaurants & coffee shops, hotels,
neighborhood organizations and community centers throughout Midtown
Greenway Corridor and Twin Cities area.
Contact Minnehaha
Media for sponsorship and distribution opportunities. Lake
Street Council members receive a discount off the sponsorship rate.
- Congratulation to Holy Land
for hitting it big in the New York Times this week! The Times visited
Minneapolis
to
talk hummus.
- Several big new business openings in
Uptown this week: new restaurant Uptown Cafeteria & Support
Group is open
now
at
Calhoun Square, and a new Apple Store is set
to
open
on June 19, at the site of the former Uptown Bar & Cafe.
- The Corcoran Neighborhood
Organization is working with CURA at the University of Minnesota to
study parking and development at Hiawatha & Lake.
"The research project, which began on June 7, aims to measure the
current demand and anticipate new demand for parking brought by
mixed-use redevelopment projects in the Corcoran neighborhood.
Moreover, the study will engage and convene the YWCA of Minneapolis,
Minneapolis Public Schools, the City of Minneapolis, prospective
developers, and others in a round table conversation about parking
demand, precedents and possible solutions, and shared opportunities for
cost savings and fund raising. A final report will help inform ongoing
area development."
