Lake Street Ambassadors Back On The Job
It's summertime,
school is out, and our Lake Street Ambassadors program is once again making our
business community cleaner and more attractive. Thanks to the generosity of all
our sponsors, this year we have six high schoolers out on the street, and we
hope to add a seventh soon. Every weekday from 9 - 3, they'll be out with pik
sticks and trash bags, getting that litter off the street. You can recognize
them by their Visit Lake Street USA t-shirts, which we get from Northland Poster Collective. A photo
of this year's crew is also on our website.
If you see them cleaning up an area near you, be sure to give them a thumbs-up
and let them know you appreciate what they're doing for you!
Our sponsors this year include: City of Minneapolis;
Allina; area business associations at Chicago Avenue, Hiawatha,
Bloomington-Cedar, Nicollet and Longfellow; Ryan Companies; Northland Poster
Collective; Metro Transit; Welna Hardware; and US Bank. A big thank you to all
of them, and to you when you give them a kind word.
The Latest on Lake:
- Adding to the many great options for outdoor
summer dining on Lake Street, Longfellow
Grill's patio is now open. Stop in and get
a great view right on the edge of the Mississippi River. They're open late:
'til 10:00 PM Sunday, 11:00 PM Monday through Thursday, and midnight Friday
and Saturday.
- Inside the Midtown Global Market, Farm In The
Market is adding products and expanding. They
now have fresh-cut flowers sold by the stem. They'll also soon be adding
additional space to their store, giving everyone even more reasons to check
out their locally-produced meat, dairy, and a whole lot
more.
- Mayor Rybak announced today that he is
nominating Mike Christenson to be the next director for the Department
of Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED). Mike
Christenson was instrumental in first forming the Lake Street Ambassadors
program, and Lake Street Council looks forward to continuing to work with him
on projects for the betterment of the area and the city when he takes on this
new role.
