June 23, 2009
Lake
Street Council's mission is to build
a cohesive strategy to ensure the ongoing vitality
of the Lake Street Corridor business community.
The Latest on Lake:
- A picture of this year's Lake Street Ambassadors is now
up on
our site! Be sure to see it so you'll recognize them as they're out
working on the street. And please keep in mind what we asked last
week about giving them use of your business's dumpster and offering
them a drink of water.
- We now have part 3 of our driving tour of Lake
Street up to view
on YouTube. This one goes from 15th Ave. to 35W and highlights
places like the Midtown Global Market, La Hacienda
Plaza, and the Colin Powell Youth Leadership Center. We
hope you like it! Part
one and part
two are also still available, in case you missed them before.
- The Star Tribune has a new article that
profiles the Highpoint Center for Printmaking, which has
relocated to 912 W. Lake St. and will has many events coming soon. "
'It's a fantastic space with an amazing program, like something you'd
find in Paris,' marveled Walker Art Center's new chief curator, Darsie
Alexander."
- Also from the Star Tribune, Rick Nelson sets the record straight
and explains
the changes coming soon to Figlio in Calhoun Square.
- The Uptown Association, after getting input from
businesses and residents, recently purchased bicycles for the three
police officers who serve as beat cops during the day and evening in
Uptown. They're now asking for contributions to their Beat Cop Bicycle
Fund to help support this initiative. Call 612-823-4581 or e-mail
info@uptownminneapolis.com to help out.

bed." With Kenny Kiser on the piano, she croons the tunes of Johnny
Mercer, Billy Strayhorn, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, and George
Gershwin, among others. Along the way, Ginger shares her own stories
of love and lust, ranging from innocent idealism to bitter blues.
Within this mix of live music, Ginger premieres her first music video,
"See-Line Woman," a dance film taking Ginger from the glitz of the
stage to the streets of Uptown on a journey of impregnation and
revelation.
July 11th: "Waking Up In Eden" book discussion, at
Magers
& Quinn
6:00 PM, 3038 Hennepin Ave. S.
"Like so many of us, Lucinda Fleeson wanted to escape what had become a
routine life. So, she quit her big-city job, sold her suburban house,
and moved halfway across the world to the island of Kauai to work at
the National Tropical Botanical Garden. Imagine a one-hundred-acre
garden estate nestled amid ocean cliffs, rain forests, and secluded
coves. Exotic and beautiful, yes, but as Fleeson awakens to this
sensual world, exploring the island's food, beaches, and history, she
encounters an endangered paradise--the Hawaii we don't see in the
tourist brochures."
