Lake Street News
Brief
The Lake Street
Council's mission is to build a cohesive strategy to ensure the ongoing vitality
of the Lake Street Corridor business community.
The Latest on Lake:
- The West River Commons building on the
corner of Lake and West River Parkway, home to Longfellow Grill, Papa
Murphy's, and various apartments and condos, welcomed in a new tenant this
month. Corazon is a unique
giftshop that is expanding with its second store, the first being on
Washington Avenue downtown. They specialize in work by local artists and host
openings for them, including two coming up on July 13 and August 18. They are
excited to be here, and we welcome them to Lake
Street.
- Part of Lake's streetscaping to along with
reconstruction was installing new, young trees up and down the street. These
will look a lot more impressive in a few years, but until then they'll need
some help to grow. They may require as much as 5 gallons of water every other
day, for up to 5 years. We encourage businesses and all concerned parties
on the affected streets to work out a watering schedule that will allow the
trees to flourish. This is especially important during periods of little or no
rain.
- Don't miss this article from the Pioneer
Press: East Lake Street is "a new hot spot" for the Twin Cities, with a
great selection of bars and restaurants that have recently moved in, and more
on the way. And, as our executive director Joyce Wisdom says in the article, a
lot of credit also goes to the longtime businesses that stuck around through
tougher times, and helped to provide a base upon which to build all the new
activity.
