June 2, 2009
Lake
Street Council's mission is to build
a cohesive strategy to ensure the ongoing vitality
of the Lake Street Corridor business community.
The Latest on Lake:
- Our big 2009 Lake Street marketing plans are now coming
to fruition. Starting next week, we'll have 60 second radio ads for
Lake Street on stations like JACK-FM, FM-107, LOVE 105, 93X, WCCO-AM,
and several others. We will also soon have a 10 second video ad at
the airport, which will play in the baggage claim area. You can view the airport ad
online, and we'll also post the radio ad as soon as we get the
finished copy.
- We've got a new Lake Street video up on YouTube. This one
travels to Ingebretsen's deli, where we see how they make their famous
sausage, right there at the store. Remember, any Lake Street
business interested in getting a video of their own should just let us
know!
- Steve Brandt wrote a recent column in the Star Tribune about a volunteer
bike patrol that rides the Midtown Greenway at night to
improve safety in the corridor. Check it out.
- Some upcoming proposals at the City Council may impact the rules
regarding signage for commercial property, including that on
Lake Street. Keep update through Lake Street Council and through the City Council website.
And always feel encouraged to share the concerns you have with the City
Council member in your area.
- Some sad news to report this month, as Northland
Poster Collective will be closing at the end of June. Ricardo
Levins Morales will open a studio, and spin-off businesses for union
t-shirts and buttons will carry on. Northland is offering big sales on
all merchandise until they close.
- A new restaurant called Lake Street Cafe and Support Group
is coming soon to Calhoun
Square. Also at Calhoun Square, Figlio will be remodeling
in the fall, and Sushi Tango's new, larger space across the
hall from their old space on the 2nd floor will open soon.
- The newest winner of Goodwill Easter Seals' Customer Service
Star Award at the Midtown Global Market is La Loma, which
got high marks for cleanliness, knowledgeable attentive staff, and
delicious food! Congratulations to them.
