The Latest on Lake:
- A new document
from the City of Minneapolis on the Recommended
Approach for Streetcar Implementation is now available. It
recommends moving forward first on Nicollet and Central.
For Nicollet, it notes the potential for development opportunities at
Lake and other synergies in the Lake Street area, such as reopening
Lake and Nicollet and a new 35W BRT station at Lake Street.
The document also recommends looking at the proposed Midtown
Corridor line as a fundamentally different project, more along the
lines of an "LRT Connector" than a traditional streetcar. See page 5
for details.
- A column in the Star Tribune examines Midtown
Farmers' Market's EBT program and how they're using special
deals to draw in more customers and give people on EBT more bang for
their buck. "For the first $5 an EBT user spends at the market on
anything from beets to broccoli to bok choy, he or she will get an
additional $5 in Market Bucks. In other words, $10 in produce for the
first $5 spent."
- Midtown Global Market is
drawing local attention as a great place to watch this year's World
Cup. The Star Tribune scoped
out the scene and give some details, while a reporter at the Twin
Cities Daily Planet watched the games at several venues all around
Minneapolis, and found the Global Market to
be her favorite. The World Cup tournament runs through July 11.
