July 29th: A Night of Music and Stories with Guillermo Cuellar
7:00 PM, 2742 15th Ave. S. (St. Paul's Lutheran Church)
Guillermo Cuellar is a musician and composer from El Salvador. A bilingual event perfect for families with young children and for the young and old alike. Call 612-296-2231 for more information.

July 30th
: Lake Street Construction Meeting
2:00 PM, 105 West Lake Street (Champions)
County & City project staff discuss the latest construction updates and listen and respond to business concerns.

: Patio Party at Longfellow Grill
5:00 - 9:00 PM, 2990 W. River Parkway
Live music and good deals on food and drink.

August 1st - 3rd: Uptown and Powderhorn Art Fairs
Uptown Fair
: 12 - 8:30 PM Aug. 1st, 10 AM - 8:30 PM Aug. 2, 10 AM - 6 PM Aug. 3rd
Powderhorn: 10 AM - 6 PM Aug. 2nd, 10 AM - 5 PM Aug. 3rd
These two art fairs showcase a variety of creative and original works of art from the Twin Cities area and beyond every year.

August 2nd
: Permaculture Day, at Midtown Farmers' Market
8:00 AM - 1:00 PM, corner of 22nd Ave. & East Lake St.
As part of their "Skills for a New Millennium Tour," the Permibus crew is dedicated to teaching individuals and communities on becoming more sustainable and less wasteful. Throughout the day they will be hosting events for all ages.

August 3rd
: Movie in the Park-ing Lot, at Patrick's Cabaret
Beginning at dusk, 3010 Minnehaha Ave.
"Jack Smith and the Destruction of Atlantis": A mesmerizing collage of images and audio from the life and work of Jack Smith, the underground filmmaker, photographer, performance artists, and anti-capitalist, who worked in New York from the 60s until his death in 1989.

August 5th: National Night Out
Neighbors gather all around Minneapolis to strengthen their neighborhoods and keep the streets safe.

August 6th: Author Reading at Magers & Quinn
7:30 PM, 3038 Hennepin Ave. S.
Laurel Means reads from her new novel The Long Journey Home, "a fascinating saga set in the 1860s Minnesota prairie and the Dakotas."

August 6th - 11th: Come And Get It, at Open Eye Figure Theatre
7:30 PM (with 4:00 PM shows Saturday and Sunday as well), 506 E. 24th St.
"Come and Get It tells the story of Marty, a Minnesota farm boy, who finds himself the recipient of a live threatening accident. While floating in his coma Marty reflects on his family, his wife Shelly, his art, and the family farm." From local author and playwright Kevin Kling.

August 12th: Gang Awareness Meeting

Early Mornings with Elizabeth Glidden

"Author, editor, and sought-after-speaker Jay Walljasper will talk about creative solutions for traffic calming issues and how to create great spaces for pedestrians, bikers, transit and cars."
