Lake Street News Brief

August 18, 2009
Lake
Street Council's mission is to build
a cohesive strategy to ensure the ongoing vitality
of the Lake Street Corridor business community.
The Latest on Lake:
- The
newest edition of The Lake Line, our quarterly print
newsletter, is now headed to your mailbox, and is available in PDF form
on
our website. Included in this issue: a farewell to Northland
Poster Collective, an update on our Great Streets Marketing
Initiatives, tips to keep Lake Street looking green, and more!
- Mark your calendars for Business
Day at City Hall, coming September 25. This is an opportunity for
members of the business community to speak with city officials about
issues that affect their businesses. Following a short program,
participants will attend separate "town hall" sessions with their
specific council member. Registration fee is $15, call the
Minneapolis Chamber at 612-370-9100 to register.
- The Pioneer Press has
an article up about Twin Cities restaurants and bars pressuring the
Metropolitan Council to cut outdoor seating assessments to
25% of their current level. Lake Street Council attended the recent
Met Council meeting on August 11, in support of cutting this assessment
to the 25% rate. The Met Council is set to consider the change on
September 9.
- Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl has good
things to say about the new Lyn-Lake restaurant Risotto in
her newest Minnesota Monthly column. She calls it something "that
Minneapolis desperately needs: a region-specific Italian restaurant."
- Fox 9 did
a piece last week on the efforts of the Friends of Cemetery to
restore and protect the fence at the Pioneers & Soldiers Memorial
Cemetery. Lake Street Council recently wrote the Friends of the
Cemetery a letter of support for a grant they are hoping to apply to
this effort.
- And finally, the news brief will be taking a two week break after
today, and will return after Labor Day. It will also be moving a day
later in the week, to Wednesdays. See you in September!
