Lake Street News Brief
August 22, 2006

The Lake Street Council's mission is to build a cohesive strategy to insure the ongoing vitality of the Lake Street Corridor business community.

Announcements:

  • This will be the last newsletter before the Global Market event with Congressman Sabo, so make sure it is on your calendar! Monday August 28th, 6:00-8:00 PM. Have dinner at the Market, hear from Martin Sabo in what may well be his last appearance on Lake Street in an official capacity, and see the new documentary Building At A Crossroads..., a history of the Sears building and the community.
  • Speaking of the Global Market, following first a highly favorable review from City Pages, and now from the Star Tribune, the Market is seeing its highest attendance since its opening. We encourage everyone to continue to spread the word and to make the Global Market a must-visit Minneapolis location.
  • There have been some rumors floating around recently about the Park Avenue Bridge construction and its date of completion. We have now heard from both city and county officials that the bridge remains on schedule, with a completion date of November of this year.
  • We have been hearing a lot lately about the Southwest Transitway project, a proposed high speed transit line that would have endpoints in Eden Praire and downtown Minneapolis. One of the plans being looked at is a light rail line that would in part run through Lake Street in the area from Uptown to 35W. Lake Street Council is currently in the process of scheduling a meeting with Southwest Transitway representatives to hear more on this subject.
