The Latest on Lake:

Kori's Corner - Customer Service Tips:

Kori Hennessy is a Workforce/Community Developer for Goodwill Easter Seals, and a Lake Street Council board member

Here is a short list of some of the keys to great Customer Service:

1. Drop everything to greet the customer

2. Listen

3. Keep your promises

4. Resolve problems quickly and be prepared to apologize

5. Go one step further than you have to

6. Have a well-trained staff

7. SMILE

Here, I would like to focus on #1. There is what I refer to as “the 10 second rule.” That means that every customer should be acknowledged within 10 seconds. This makes the customer feel welcome and creates a connection, which is what good service is all about, creating a relationship. It is hard to create a relationship that leads to a sale if no one is acknowledging the customer, no one is present, or the attendant is simply too busy. The first few seconds the customer is in your store is the short time period you have to make that initial connection. If you fail to do so, the customer might be lost forever. You not only lose one sale, you lose possible future sales as well.
