Lake
Street Council's mission is to build
a cohesive strategy to ensure the ongoing vitality
of the Lake Street Corridor business community.
The Latest on Lake:
- We've teamed up with the Star Tribune to put
together a new
marketing workshop for our small business community. This one
is happening on October 9th from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, and it will be held
at Star Tribune's headquarters at 425 Portland Ave. You'll hear about
the best way to make use of various forms of advertising, and hear from
American Rug Laundry's Sam Navab on how they have found
success with their advertising strategies. Check the
website for more details, including how to get free parking. No
cost to attend! RSVP to joe.haselman@startribune.com
or 612-741-4532.
- And don't forget about Business Day at City Hall,
coming up soon on September 25, your chance to have a discussion with
Council Members about ways the City and the small business community
can work together for the benefit of all. Head over to the Minneapolis
Chamber of Commerce's website for the details and to register
online.
- The Twin Cities Daily Planet recently
interviewed Ramon Leon, executive director of the Latino
Economic Development Center. He talks about issues like social
justice, the beginning of the Mercado Central, and what Lake Street
means to the local Latino community. Check
it out!
- Last month, we told you about area bars and restaurants asking
the Metropolitan Council to cut sewer fees for outdoor patio seating
by 75%. This month, the Met Council agreed
to do just that, starting
October 1. Thanks to everyone who took time to testify or otherwise on
this issue.
- Restaurant
Week starts on September 27, and several Lake Street area
restaurants are participating, including moto-i, Herkimer, Amore
Victoria, Stella's Fish Cafe, and Sushi
Tango. Check the link in order to see what's on the menu and to
make a reservation!
- And congrats to the Midtown Produce Exchange, which made
it into the Minnesota Monthly this month as their recommended way to
save money on Healthy Eats. "Perfect organic Rainier cherries show up
for $2 a quart and organic apples appear at $4 a bag. They're also a
distributor for several area farmers, so yo'll often find local produce
at farmers' market prices."
