: Lake Street Construction Meeting

County & City project staff discuss the latest construction updates and listen and respond to business concerns.

September 5thPoetry Party, at Magers & Quinn
7:30 PM, 3038 Hennepin Ave. S.
Four prestigious poets -- Deborah Bernhardt-Echolalia, Lightsey Darst, Juliet Patterson, and William Stobb -- come together to participate.

September 5th & 6th: Voices of Guantanamo, at Patrick's Cabaret
8:00 PM, 3010 Minnehaha Ave.
The book "Poems from Guantanamo" comes to life with a night of poetry, music, theater and dance. All proceeds will be donated by the artists to The Center for Victims of Torture.

September 6th: Cooking Demo with Ron Huff, at Midtown Farmers' Market
8:00 AM - 1:00 PM, corner of 22nd Ave. & East Lake St.
Ron Huff is a classically trained and internationally certified chef who is a founder and leader of Slow Food Minnesota.

Beginning September 12th: Bad Jazz in Tickled Pink, at Open Eye Figure Theatre
506 E. 24th St.
"Conceived on the banks of the Mississippi River in 1983,  Tickled Pink, serves up the old familiar with three men playing to the best of their abilities, both rare and well done."

September 12th: Book Release Party, at Pangea World Theater
7:00 - 9:30 PM, 711 West Lake Street
Pangea World Theater invites you to hear the "Story Behind the Stories" with author Bill Cleveland. Come celebrate the Minneapolis release of his new title Art and Upheaval: Artists on the World's Frontlines.

September 13th: Minneapolis Rotary Club's Taste of Lake Street
3:00 - 7:00 PM, corner of Lake St. & Elliot Ave.
Over a dozen Lake Street restaurants participating. Ticket and raffle proceeds go to Minneapolis food shelves.

September 13th: Rock For Democracy Block Party, at Bryant Lake Bowl
4:00 - 10:00 PM, corner of Lake St. & Bryant Ave.
Live music, street entertainment, and locally produced and organic foods and beverages. See more at www.rockfordemocracymn.com.

September 14th
: Mexican Independence Day Celebration
12:00 - 6:00 PM, 4th & Lake
An 11:30 parade from Bloomington Ave. to 3rd Ave. followed by a celebration featuring many local Latino businesses,  food vendors, schools, churches and nonprofit organizations serving the Latino community. 20,000 - 25,000 people are expected to attend.
