October 1st: Lake Street Construction Meeting
2:00 PM, 105 West Lake Street (Champions)
County & City project staff discuss the latest construction updates and listen and respond to business concerns.

Beginning October 2nd: The Chairs, at Pangea World Theater
7:30 PM, 711 W. Lake St.
"In a lighthouse on the edge of civilization an old man and an old woman make preparations for a grand party, during which the old man intends to deliver a message that will shake the foundations of the world. What will his message be? As their guests slowly begin to arrive, it is clear that everything is not as it seems. An absurdist masterpiece by Ionesco, The Chairs features Twin Cities favorites, Richard Ooms and Claudia Wilkens."

"This humorous poetic romp  is created for the stage by two of  the Twin Cities most comedic and loved performers. Cockroaches...Cleopatra...rubbish...royalty.  Join Sarah Agnew and Jim Lichtscheidl as they serve up Don Marquis' archy and mehitabel, new and skewed where '...men and insects are the same, both transient flecks of starry dust that out of nothing came.' "

October 3rd & 4thAn Eclectic Mix, at Patrick's Cabaret
8:00 PM, 3010 Minnehaha Ave.
Featuring: Laura Littleford with an excerpt of "Romeo and Juliet in Winnipeg", "Night Visions" by John Gustav-Wrathall, Performance poet, Wendy Brown(-Baez) with "Hitch-hiking the Cosmos", Joan Calof reading and/or singing poems from her hot-off- the -press poetry chapbook, The Lyrical Curmudgeon. There will be a sing-along, and Music by the Witherspoon Trio.


October 4th
: Choose to Reuse Kick-Off, at Midtown Farmers' Market
8:00 AM - 1:00 PM, corner of 22nd Ave. & East Lake St.
In conjunction with Hennepin County, the market is once again participating in "Choose to Reuse" month. Visit the market booth for a Hennepin County Reuse and Recycle coupon book! This very popular initiative will provide you with inexpensive opportunities through which to reduce your consumption and reduce your carbon footprint.

October 4th: The Adventures of Juan Bobo, at In the Heart of the Beast Theatre
10:00 AM & Noon, 1500 E. Lake St.
Juan Bobo must set things right after three devils steal love, food and music from the world. Part of HOBT's Saturday Puppet Shows for Kids series.

October 4th: A Taste of Phillips
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, 2742 15th Ave. S. (St. Paul's Lutheran Church)
Sample the arts, music, food and cultures of Phillips! Hear about exciting things happening in education, arts, community and business development and learn about the ministry of St. Paul's.

October 6th: Phillips Community Energy Cooperative Annual Membership Meeting
5:30 - 8:00 PM, 1516 E. Lake St. (Plaza Verde)

October 7th: "Selling to Government Agencies" Conference
7:30 AM - 1:00 PM, 7600 Normandale Blvd. (Sheraton Bloomington Hotel)
Representatives from the Metropolitan Airports Commission, MnDOT, the City of Minneapolis Equipment, The City of St. Paul Contract and Analysis Services, and many more will be on hand Oct. 7 to mentor small business owners at this conference. Registration can be done by going online at www.egc.mn.org and costs $149 per person.

October 9th: The Carol Connolly Reading Series, at Intermedia Arts

"Beyond the Pure: Readings by Writers of Color" Featuring poets Ibé, Bao Phi, and Sun Yung Shin. Admission by donation.

October 19th
Author Reading, at Magers & Quinn

Tom Dickson discusses The Great Minnesota Fish Book.
