Safety and Livability

Safety and Livability

The Lake Street Council is dedicated to the reduction of crime and increase in safety for all our businesses, residents and visitors. We work other nonprofit and governmental partners to make improvements in livability standards throughout the corridor.

Our past and current initiatives include:

  • Established relationship with the 3rd and 5th Minneapolis Police Precincts, including direct connection to Lake Street Beat Officers.
  • Established relationships with the Hennepin County Minnesota Judicial Branch to help show the impact of crime on Lake Street Corridor businesses.
  • Monthly Crime & Safety meetings with Crime Prevention Specialist with Spanish translation provided.
  • Creation and membership in the South Minneapolis Public Safety Coalition, a group that strives to improve community awareness around local safety stats and trends.
  • Inclusion on the Minneapolis Police Chief’s Citizens Advisory Council
  • Creation of the Phillips 50 - a program intended to track and monitor repeat offenders in the Lake Street corridor.

How can your business help?

  • Call 911 to report criminal activity!
  • Reduce litter and pick up trash around your property.
  • Report broken, dirty or damaged public trash containers to Andy Carlson at Andrew.Carlson@minneapolismn.gov or (612) 673-2836.
  • Enclose your dumpster with a fence to minimize trash on the streets.
